![]() Main article: X Universe (Fictional Setting) All moving ship class objects which can be acquired by the player can be flown by the player. The player can own an unlimited number of ships and stations. Credits can be used to buy wares to trade, equipment, space station schematics, and ships (both to fly and command). The main driving force of the game is to acquire ‘credits’, the universal currency in the X Universe. When within stations the player remains in their ship but is protected by the stations shields. Ships can dock at different stations depending of their class. The player remains in a ship unless they eject into space wearing a spacesuit. ![]() The game is free roaming where the player can go and do whatever they like, wherever they like, whenever they like (permitting they have the in-game means to do so such as race notoriety, rank, and equipment). As of November 10, 2006, the version 2.0.01 of X3 Reunion no longer uses StarForce copy protection. The Steam release does not include StarForce copy protection, but uses Steam's own DRM. In July 2006, the game was made available on Valve Software's Steam system. The European, United States and Australian retail releases use StarForce copy protection. The open ended gameplay allows the player to achieve close to everything even without playing the plot line. These games are best described as Space simulators which incorporate trade, combat, ship and station management. The game is the sequel to X²: The Threat ( 2003), which in turn followed X: Beyond the Frontier ( 1999). X³: Reunion is also being ported to Linux and should be released May 2007. The game was intended to be Egosoft's first multiplatform release on both Windows and Xbox, but the plans changed and shortly before the PC release, it was revealed the Xbox version had been cancelled. Do NPC ships ever use Jump Drives? I can't seem to recall seeing other ships "Jump Out" or "Jump In", so to speak.X³: Reunion is a computer game in the X series developed by Egosoft and released late 2005. It is treated as it should be, a rare, very valuable item, similar to the way cloaking devices were treated in various movies and shows, IE Star Trek Etc. Personally I like the current situation where you do have to go the extra mile to get a jump drive for your ships as well as the inventive and challenging work around(s) mentioned above.įor me the X game play set does a great job of presenting you with ongoing logistical challenges that you must overcome to get along and this is one of them. Maybe you could have a systems extension storage unit that you can buy and load software on to. Trade MkIII is a systems extension so if it counted as software you could say you can't install 2 versions. Hope they are treated as wares in TC.Īs a JD is just a piece of equipment after all. Quanta_nomad wrote:Still, i think purchasing JD or Trade MK3 has been made a hassle for no good reason. (also helps if you have a freighter transport to transfer energy cells to it). Split Shipyards are all fairly remote from where you can buy jumpdrives and transporter devices, so you will have to do a bit of taxi-ing to initially equip an Elephant. One drawback is you have to be personally on the bridge - can't do it using the remote freight transfer function (talking about jumdrive and transporter device transfer - not other items). The Elephant can easily stock 15000 energy cells, you can use this opportunity to stock them all up with energy cells, fighter drones, weapons etc. ![]() I have 5 split elephants, and 2 are set up exclusively for this purpose (one empty, one on standby with 14 J.D. (selecting your docked ships, use internal freight exchange for each jumpdrive). Use the freight beamer to transfer your jumpdrives to the ships. You Jump to the sector where the shipyard is. ![]() I think of it as a mobile docking station, but is much more than that.įor large ships - I use this for equipping TS class fleets, as I like to set up UT's 10 at a time - you need:ġ Split Elephant with jumpdrive and transporter device fitted.ġ4 Discoverers in its docking bay, all of which you purchased from the Argon Shipyard, and have fitted out with jumpdrives from the nearby sector. An elephant can carry 14 ships, and costs less than an XL solar power station. The use of the Argon Discover as a 'Jumpdrive Exchange' taxi is ok when just doing one or two ships at a time.įor more ships, for smaller ships (fighters) - I have a Split Elephant with a jumpdrive, and use it to shuttle any fighters I buy to the nearest jumprive shop.
